Dried Flowers - Making A New Year Cards Wreath

A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I’ve played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.
~Edgar Guest

New year is the time to fuss over in some soul inquiring and observation.  New year comes knocking at our door. No wonder one needs a fitting New Year while uncorking the bouncy champagne as the clock strikes 12. We offer gifts, wreaths, and cards during New Year. All these items warmly greet the New Year.

Make use of the previous years New Year cards and create a New Year wreath with cards. For making a New Year cards wreath you will need the following materials:

  • Ribbons
  • 12” length of yarns
  • 20 recycled Christmas cards
  • Clear tapes
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Pens
  • Rulers
  • Dried roses
  • Wreath frame
  • Floral wire
  • Hot glue

Begin your project with wrapping the wreath frame with floral wire. This will secure the wreath frame. Continue the process of wrapping the entire wreath frame.  Tie a knot when the two ends of the wire meet.

Now select 20 leftover Christmas cards that you will be using in your wreath frame. Select cards that have contrasting colors.  If you wish choose cards of changeable shades but of one color. Avoid using the same color in the wreath.

At the back of each cards trace a rectangular pattern using a ruler. Cut the shape properly. Trace this shape onto the back of the front sections of the 20 cards that you are using in your wreath. Cut out all the rectangular shapes from the cards.

Arrange the rectangular shapes in a circular manner and overlap the ends. Apply glue at the back of each card and place them at the overlapping points. Attach the cards randomly in the wreath frame. Remember to leave gaps in between the cards.

Cut the stems of the dried roses at a length of 6”. Now place the dried roses in the wreath frame. Apply hot glue at the back of each dried rose and press them to wreath frame. Make a large bow and attach it at the top of the wreath.

You can also make few tiny bows and attach them with the Christmas cards in the wreath frame.
